For this first video of 2025, I am happy to offer you a scenic ride on the "Tarentaise" line, through the magnificent mountainous landscapes of the French Alps! From the Prefecture of Savoy to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, we take the famous Maurienne line (opened in 1856) to Saint-Pierre-d'Albigny, station from which we will branch off onto the single-track line of the "Tarentaise" (opened gradually from 1879 to 1913), named after the valley it goes up. After reaching Alberville and turning back at the station, we will leave in the direction of Moutiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, still accompanied by the Isère river which we will cross several times. This line, very well known for the famous ski resorts it serves, is regularly saturated during winter peaks. It is one of the very few places in the world where we can admire a whole battery of high-speed trains from the four corners of France, Eurostar from England, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, all on a small single-track mountain line that already has a lot of regional traffic and a few freight trains! We will make the trip aboard a traditional Class BB22200. And a little particularity: The sound was recorded on the locomotive after the turnaround in Albertville, in order to make the most of the song of the engines in full effort rather than the monotonous atmosphere of the B5 pilot cars!
