In this video you can enjoy the cab ride from Champéry to Aigle, Switzerland, in 4K/60 frames per second. Step aboard the driver’s cab for an unforgettable traverse from the alpine village of Champéry down to the valley station at Aigle aboard the scenic metre-gauge Aigle–Ollon–Monthey–Champéry railway, operated by Transports Publics du Chablais (TPC) in southwestern Switzerland. The line spans approximately 23 km and descends by some 645 metres from summit to valley, following a route part adhesion track, part cog-rail-hauled on the steep sections. Your journey begins at Champéry, where the crisp mountain air and ski-resort charm fade into a thrilling descent. As the train engages its rack-and-pinion gear for the steepest stretches (a 13.5 % gradient on the rack section) you’ll glide past wooded slopes, alpine meadows, and narrow gorges. Approaching Monthey the route flattens out and meanders along the Rhône valley, with vineyards and the hint of Mediterranean sunshine creeping in. Once the line reaches Aigle—where it connects with the standard-gauge SBB/SNCF lines—the contrast of high alpine tranquillity and valley bustle is striking. Recent upgrades are underway: in 2025, TPC placed an order for new Stadler Beh 4/8 rack-&-adhesion multiple units that will be specially built for AL (Aigle-Leysin) and other TPC mountain lines. These vehicles are designed for steep gradients like the 230 ‰ here, tight curves, and improved passenger comfort. You can find more information about the line on: https://tpc.ch Please note that the speed data is GPS-based and can be very inaccurate. It might indicate a different speed than the actual speed.
