Stockholm - Oslo Part 1/3

In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from a SJ train between two capitals, Stockholm in Sweden and Oslo in Norway, the first part of the journey to Ställdalen in 4K/60 frames per second. Join us for a rail journey from Stockholm C (Centralstation) and Oslo S (Sentralstasjon), connecting the capital cities of Sweden and Norway. Usual journey takes about five hours, taking a route along Western Mainline (Västra stambanan) and Värmland railway (Värmlandsbanan) via Karlstad but due to works on the usual route, our train took an interesting bypass route via railway junction of Ställdalen, taking us on a journey through the forests and along the lakes of the historic Västmanland county via several regional lines. Only after four and a half hours we return to the usual route in the junction of Kil, proceeding then on usual route to Oslo for the last two and a half hours of our whole seven hour journey. While scenic and practical, this isn’t a first choice for travel between these two capitals with just several daily trips including two pairs of express trains with travel time of five hours and several more slower services. There are plans to upgrade the connection both within Sweden by upgrading the speed on Western Mainline, but also a completely new and direct high-speed route is considered between Arvika in Sweden (north of Karlstad) and Lillestrøm that would significantly cut down the distance and enable Stockholm to Oslo journey times closer to three hours in the future. In the first part of the journey, we leave Stockholm Centrastation southwards via Royal island of Gamla stan, across the Arstabron bridges and then join the new high-speed line to Södertälje Syd, where our deviation from usual route starts. In stead of continuing on Western Mainline (Västra stambanan) towards Göteborg we turn to a regional Svealand railway (Svealandsbanan) via Eskilstuna, take a brief visit to Mällarbanan line from Arboga to Frovi and then turn north on the east branch of Bergslag railway (Bergslagbanan) to reach the junction of Ställdalen where first part of the journey ends.
